Hello Volunteers,
This will be DANEnet's last volunteer opportunity for 2006. We'll be
meeting again at Bridge/Lake Point Neighborhood Center to work on
more computers for a neighborhood computer class and try to get some
printers working.
PROJECT 1. Wed. December 20 at 6:30PM - Bridge/Lake Point
Neighborhood Center
1917 Lake Point Drive, Madsion (Day of Service meeting place)
The staff at Bridge is starting some beginning computer classes and
at the end of the class, they would like to give away one computer to
each student from their community. DANEnet has some computers left
over from last year's Day of Service which would be perfect for a
home user.
Last meeting, the group got through more than a dozen PCs. We'd like
to set aside 10 computer systems, compete with monitor, keyboard,
mouse, modems and some open source software. Please bring your PC
repair tools and we'll get to work. This could go late if we run into
a lot of problems but don't feel like you have to stay all night.
There are also three public use computers at the neighborhood center
with problems so it would be great to resolve those issues at the
same time.
PROJECT 2. Wed. December 20 at 6:30PM - Troubleshoot printer for
William St. Arts Center
1917 Lake Point Drive, Madison (Day of Service meeting place)
DANEnet has three HP Business Inkjet printers (HP 2280 and 2300
series) all donated from a local college. We are unsure of their
functionality so I'm hoping someone could take them and if possible,
get a least one working for the William Street Arts Center. These
three printers will be at the Bridge/Lake Point Neighborhood Center
to work on there or take with to work in your shop. If you can get
one printer working, your next step will be to take it to the William
St. Arts Center on Madison's east side and install on their single
Win2000 PC.
If you are interested in further volunteer opportunities, please sign
yourself up for the CommunityIT commcomp listserv. Head to http://
www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/commcomp to signup. This is best way
to receive alerts about upcoming projects. Its a very low-traffic
listserv so don't worry about getting tons of messages every day.
